JKT for Gov: Video & Written Testimonial Guide

Thank you for your interest in making a video or writing to your local paper in support of Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins’ campaign for governor! A short message from you — honest, personal, and straight from the heart — can go a long way in showing why Alaskans from all backgrounds are supporting JKT.

Videos will be shared on social media and other campaign platforms to show what JKT’s support really looks like, directly from Alaskans like you.

STEP #1: GET INSPIRED BY…

  1. Barb’s video

  2. Kes’ community perspective in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner

  3. Nancy’s op-ed in the Homer Independent

  4. Pat’s op-ed in ADN

  5. Nicky’s letter in the News-Miner

STEP #2: PICK YOUR MESSAGE

Keep it simple and speak from your heart. You don’t need to answer every question, just pick one or two that feel meaningful to you.

Here are some prompts to help you get started:

  • How would you describe JKT?

  • What do you like about what JKT has done as a former legislator?

  • Why do you think Alaska needs someone like JKT right now?

  • If you had 30 seconds to tell a friend why you're supporting JKT, what would you say?

  • What’s an issue you care deeply about – and how will JKT be able to help?

  • Jonathan is the kind of guy who _____.

  • You might be surprised to know that Jonathan _____.

  • In his career, JKT has demonstrated _____.

  • What kind of future do you want for Alaska, and how does JKT fit into that vision?

  • What would you say to someone who’s undecided about this race?

  • What kind of change does Alaska need? Why is JKT the right person to get it done?

  • [If applicable] I’m a Republican/Independent, and I support Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins for Governor because _____.

If recording: Aim to keep video messages around 30 seconds. Feel free to jot down a few thoughts ahead of time, but it doesn’t need to be perfect. We just want to hear your voice, in your own words.

If writing: Every newspaper has different parameters for letters to the editor, community perspectives, and op-eds. Feel free to contact the campaign (see Step #5) if you’re looking for a second opinion!

STEP #3: BE YOURSELF

A bit of humor, warmth, or hometown pride is always welcome. Feel free to include a quick story or personal experience if you’d like.

STEP #4 (videos only): FILM IT RIGHT

Film videos where you feel comfortable, whether that be your kitchen, garage, office, cockpit, or even out on a hike. It doesn’t need to be polished. What matters is that it’s real.

For the best quality video:

  • Hold your phone vertically (up-and-down)

  • Position the camera at the speaker’s eye level

  • Make sure you’re well-lit, face a window for natural light or use a lamp

  • Keep your environment as quiet as possible (no honking, AC noises, weather, etc.)

  • Frame the shot with your head and shoulders in the center of the video

  • Start by saying your name and what community in Alaska you’re from

STEP #5: SEND IN YOUR MESSAGE!

If recording: When you’re done, send your raw video file to julian@jktforak.com or upload it to this Google Drive folder. Please include your name and a way for the campaign to contact you.

If writing: Send your op-ed or letter to the editor to your local news outlet! Most of them have instructions on their website, or you can call to ask.

STEP #6: SHARE IT!

Once your video is ready or your letter is published, we may post it from the campaign’s social media accounts. If you’re up for it, we’d love for you to share or repost it too. Every share helps spread the word!

THAT’S IT — THANK YOU!

Thank you for lending your voice and sharing your support for JKT. This race is about YOU every Alaskan who knows it’s time for change!
