JKT CROSSES $1.25M IN CONTRIBUTIONS

Grassroots support fuels one of the strongest fundraising starts in the governor’s race

Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins’s campaign for Alaska Governor announced today that it has raised more than $1.25 million since launching at the start of February, powered by thousands of donors from across Alaska and beyond. The campaign has already broken an Alaska fundraising record as the fastest governor’s campaign in state history to raise $1 million (excluding self-funded candidates).

“This groundswell of support is proof that Alaskans are ready to get our state back on track,” said Kreiss-Tomkins. “That means funding — and forward-funding — our schools so that families can put down roots with confidence. It means lowering the cost of housing, energy, and childcare. It means managing our fisheries for future generations. Our campaign is about bringing much-needed change to Alaska, and we’re going to bring our message to every corner of the state between now and November.”

The fundraising total comes on the heels of a wave of endorsements announced last week from 15 current and former elected officials across Alaska, bringing JKT’s total endorsement count to 45 current and former legislators, mayors, assembly members, and school board members.

About Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins

Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (JKT), born and raised in Sitka, represented Southeast Alaska’s island communities for 10 years in the State House. He first won election at age 23 after leaving college without a degree to launch a grassroots campaign, traveling by ferry and floatplane to knock on nearly every door across Southeast Alaska, defeating an established incumbent by 32 votes.

A member of the Bipartisan Coalition in the House, he worked across the aisle to protect public education, reduce trawl bycatch and protect our fisheries, invest in infrastructure, revitalize Alaska Native languages, and protect the Permanent Fund from overspending.  After a decade in the legislature, Kreiss-Tomkins retired in 2023, and spent two years working for a national nonprofit on science and technology policy on Capitol Hill, as well as working on campaigns across Alaska and the country. 

Since leaving the legislature, he's seen what all Alaskans have witnessed: a distracted state government that is failing to solve Alaska’s big problems. Prices keep rising. Basic infrastructure is neglected. Schools struggle or close.
